During the period of awful communist totalitarian regime, the period of spiritual decay and darkness that was covering Ukraine for many years, it was the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church that became a kind of luminary the flame of which has never died away in the darkness caused by the absence of spirituality and has always inspired belief in better future and hope in the hearts of oppressed people.
Thanks to the underground missionary activities of the Greek-Catholic Church clergymen our people have preserved their traditions and rites, their spirituality and the faith of ancestors.
Despite difficult economic conditions old temples are being restored and new ones are being constructed in a lot of our towns and villages.
In the health-resort town of Truskavets in Pre-Carpathia to which a lot of people from different parts of Ukraine and from abroad come to take cure it's important to have a strong religious centre of our church.
The Centre of Ukrainian Christian Culture "Svichado" will become such a stronghold of missionary activity, housing the Sunday School, nurses training school, dining room for orphans and single old-aged people. I've given my blessing to the construction of such centre that will be attached to the existing here St.Nicolas' Church.
I call on all the beleivers of our Church and all the Christians and people of good will living in Ukraine and abroad to make donations to this good public affair and Almighty God will return a hundredfold to all benefactors and donators.
Myroslav Ivan Cardinal Liubachivskiy, Patriarch of the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church
